General Watershed Information ] Little Susitna Watershed ] [ Cottonwood Creek Watershed ]

Cottonwood Creek starts from several lakes northwest of Wasilla and flows for approximately 33 river miles through the heart of Wasilla to drain into the mudflats at the Knik Arm.  It hosts salmon runs, trout species, and provides important wildlife habitat.  Cottonwood Creek is becoming a very urban stream with development along its shores.  During its route to the Knik Arm, Cottonwood Creek flows through several lakes (Cottonwood, Mud, Wasilla lakes).

This watershed helps control flood waters, filters pollutants, supports recreation, and has scenic landscape features. Unfortunately, this naturally rich area is becoming more and more threatened by population pressures and increasing resource demands.
