Lesson 1: The Enviroscape
* A point/non-point pollution
activity
Geared toward 3rd through 6th
grade (target 4th grade)
Activities:
- Set up Enviroscape and relate its features to
our local landscape
- Follow the manual outline for questions to ask
students
- Have students add various "chemicals" and
"pollutants" to the model
- Discuss observations/accept ideas for prevention of
pollution problems
Mat-Su District 4th Grade Science Standards addressed with this
activity:
- A1.1 Asking Questions, Predicting, Observing,, Describing, Making
Generalizations
- A1.1a Formulating and justifying predicions based on cause and effect
relationships
- A1.1b Differentiating observations from inference (interpretation)
- A1.1c Incorporating their use of scientific tools and models
Time Required:
- 20 minutes to set up the Enviroscape model
- 30 minutes for demonstration and discussion
- 20 minutes to clean up the model
