Watershed
Coalition Meetings (open to the public):
The
Wasilla SWCD, in partnership with The Nature Conservancy, hosts Watershed
Coalition meetings one or two times per year. These meetings are open to
the public and are a forum for discussing water-related issues in the greater
Wasilla District. We also receive input from the community on our
District’s priorities and direction. We have had two public meetings to
date (
October 25, 2005
and
September 19, 2006
) with participants from the Mat-Su Borough, Department of Environmental
Conservation, City of
Wasilla
, Natural Resource Conservation Service,
Mat-Su
School District
personnel and students, private landowners, and community members representing
a diversity of interests.
Our next
meeting is not yet scheduled but will likely be held sometime during spring
2007. We will post the date here when it is known.
Cottonwood
Creek Spring Cleanup!:

Our annual Cottonwood Creek
Cleanup took place on May 3rd in conjunction with the city-wide Spring '08 clean
up efforts. We concentrated on the area right around the Parks Hwy but we
had some extra volunteers spread along the banks of the whole Creek. With
Borough donated supplies and some dedicated volunteers, we were able to collect
over 75 bags of garbage. Thanks go out to all that helped clean up
Cottonwood Creek!
